That's one of the biggest reasons I regret being in America . Yes, there are celebrations here but nothing as grand as in Kolkata." Speaking of movies, was the journey from the spotlight to behind the camera a natural progression, then? "After I graduated from NYU with a BFA in Film and TV, I was like a zombie, freelancing as a cinematographer and camera assistant. Cinematography really attracts me. The way light, shadows, contrast and textures are painted with a moving camera to tell a story still astounds me. The good news for President Barack Obama as he considers a military response against Syria for using chemical weapons against rebels is that he probably won't have to deal with a similar anti-war movement from Hollywood. There were some surprise hits, like "The Conjuring" and "The Purge." And there were a string of movies that did very well, even though they didn't quite hit blockbuster range, such as "Despicable Me 2," "Star Trek: Into Darkness," and "Fast and Furious 6." For Hollywood, summer 2013 was a confusing concoction a record season that felt underwhelming. "I'm not sure there are any grand lessons to be learned from this except that you have to throw a lot of stuff on the wall of mass culture to see what sticks," says Robert Thompson, founder of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University in New York. "Yes, there were no mega-blockbusters, and yes, the movies way down the list at 4, 5, 6 and lower made up for the gap but to translate that into a workable formula is impossible. Thats why they call it show business and not mathematics." Part of the reason for the sense of letdown comes from the fact that Hollywood released 18 films that cost more than $100 million this summer, up from 13 last year. Yet only 11 will hit the $100 million mark in domestic sales.
Source: http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Society/2013/0904/Hollywood-s-disappointing-summer-sets-box-office-record

Farrell and Asner both say that beating the war drums on Syria is one of many mistakes Obama has made. "I voted for him, but I'm not proud. He hasn't thrown himself on the funeral pyre. I wanted him to sacrifice himself. Instead, he has proved himself to be a corporatist, and as long as he's a corporatist, he's not my president," Asner said. "A lot of people have lost hope -- with the betrayals, the NSA spying ... People aren't getting active because 'Who gives a shit?' is essentially the bottom line." Adds Farrell: "I'm frankly deeply disappointed in the president's foreign policy, war-making, his reliance on military rather then diplomatic responses, his use of drones, continued allowance of the Guantanamo prison.
Source: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/syria-why-hollywoods-anti-war-623326
